The University Lifestyle Survey 2006
Synopsis:
This survey follows on from the first Sodexho/Times Higher University
Lifestyle Survey in 2004. Once again we have set out to provide a
uniquely detailed exploration of how the 2,247,440 undergraduate
students across the UK really live while they are at university. Rather
than concentrating simply on student debt, as many other surveys have
done, we have looked at the whole student experience. Why are students
at university in the first place? How do they spend their time? How much
cash do they have in their wallets? What are their biggest concerns?
The second University Lifestyle Survey challenges a number of the
traditional assumptions about students and the way they live. For many
people lifestyle is a matter of conscious choice. But for a significant
number of today’s undergraduates lifestyle is a matter of necessity. A
significant number of students have to overcome considerable
difficulties in order to obtain the degree which they see as a path to
their chosen career.
