Young People's Sexual Health in South-East Hampshire
Synopsis:
- This survey, conducted in 1999, was undertaken
by Centre for Sexual Research at the University of
Southampton.
Objectives:
- To understand why certain Sex Sense (youth
family planning) clinics had more
success in attracting young people; to explore the
use, knowledge and opinions of
existing services; to obtain young people’s criteria
for a good youth sexual health
clinic.
- To obtain general information on young people’s
sex and contraceptive
knowledge, sexual attitudes and behaviour, and their
opinions of sex education.
Methodology:
- Structured questionnaire completed under
supervision by the respondents at the
venues participating in the study.
- A representative sample from all relevant venues
within the study area.
Settings:
- Three comprehensive schools, two family planning
clinics and two Sex Sense
clinics in South-East Hampshire.
Respondents:
- 804 respondents, comprising 696 schools pupils
and 108 clinic attendees.
