South Tyneside Lifestyle Survey 2003
The South Tyneside Health and Lifestyle Survey 2003 (2003 STHLS) was
commissioned to find out more about the health and the issues that
impact upon the health of South Tyneside residents. It was initiated to
gather information from residents aged ‘16 and over’ regarding:
- their health
- their perceptions of health, and
- their health-related behavior
The South Tyneside Health and Lifestyle Survey (2003 STHLS) was carried
out between January and April 2003. A random sample of 7,500 South
Tyneside residents aged 16 and over was selected from the Tyne and Wear
Contractor Services Agency (TWCSA) database. In order to be able to
provide a comparative analysis of the health of residents in 2003 with
the baseline information obtained in the 1992 survey, a self-completion
postal questionnaire was designed similar to that previously employed.
2,023 valid questionnaires were returned; a response rate of 27.3%.
