Tellus2 Survey

Tellus is an online survey run by Ofsted that gathers the views of young people. It provides data for the National Indicator set used in annual performance assessments, but it also provides information on health and lifestyle of young people.

Tellus2 was undertaken online over a 7 week period from 24 April to 14 June 2007. The survey uses a multi-stage sampling methodology comprising:
  • Selection of schools
  • Selection of classes within schools
A maximum limit per Local authority was set at 40 primary schools, 15 secondary schools and 2 pupil referral units.

A stratified design was applied within each local authority. For example, the proportion of young people eligible for free school meals was used to stratify and used as an indicator of deprivation.
