Leicester Lifestyle Survey
Synopsis:
The Leicester City Health Action Zone commissioned a survey of health
related behaviour and attitudes – ‘lifestyle’ – of people living in
Leicester aged 18 years and over. The aim was to provide information and
insight into the lifestyle risk factors of Leicester populations and a
baseline for targeted action to reduce risk factors, target inequalities
and promote health in the future.
The survey was undertaken by NOP in spring/summer 2002 and consisted
of a postal self-completion questionnaire sent to almost 9,500 adult
residents drawn randomly from the electoral register. The eight HAZ
priority areas - Belgrave, Greater Humberstone, Highfields, Saffron,
Braunstone, New Parks, North West Leicester and St Matthews - were over
sampled. These relate to the most deprived neighbourhoods in the City
and therefore the data provide a comparative picture of the inequalities
present between these neighbourhoods and the city as a whole, and any
differences found between priority neighbourhoods. The results are based
on 3340 respondents. The unadjusted response rate for the survey is 38%.
