Fife Health & Lifestyle Survey 2001
Synopsis:
The aim of the survey was to collect information about the health and
lifestyles of the adult Fife population. This would enable trends in
health and lifestyle behaviours to be observed, progress to national and
local targets monitored and to facilitate effective planning and
promotion of health at both a Fife and Local Health Care Co-operative (LHCC)
level.
The survey contained 70 questions covering social and personal
information, general health, smoking, alcohol, food, safety and injury,
caring, women’s health, stronger communities, sexual health and
wellbeing.
The survey was sent, by post, to a random sample of 1.5% of the
population of Fife registered with a GP aged 16 and over, 4359
individuals. Reminders were sent two weeks after initial posting date to
individuals whom had not returned completed surveys.
A total of 2155 completed surveys were returned representing a valid
response rate of 51.4%. Individuals who responded to the survey were
more likely to be female, older and less deprived than those who did not
respond.
