There are a number of key points to be aware of when drafting questions – these include:
  • Avoid questions with complex or technical language
  • Avoid long questions
  • Does the question ask about more than one thing?
  • Is the question leading?
  • Is the question framed in the negative?
  • Will the words have the same meaning to everyone?
  • Is there a prestige bias in the question?
  • Is the question ambiguous?
  • Do you need a direct or indirect question?
  • Is personal or impersonal wording required?
  • Does the question ask for too personal information?
